September 10, 2019 Meeting Minutes
Call to Order
5:44 p.m. by Suzanne Fraser at Suzanne Fraser’s home on September 10, 2019.
Inspiration: Suzanne shared a birthday message located in the May DKG newsletter written by Cathy P. Daugherty, DKG International President, detailing what it means to be a DKG member and drew a connection to the work that our members do within their committees and the tenants expressed in the article. In keeping with the practice of getting to know our members, 4 members, Tammy Harter, Claudette Bowie, Susan Lance and Maria Lopez, shared background information about themselves.
Members in Attendance: (17) Karen Bowen, Andrea Guerrero, Irene Lonergan, Lisa Wood, Claudette Bowie, Maria Lopez, Kathleen Shivers, Tammy Harter, Susan Lance, Angela Loya, Suzanne Fraser, Elaine Hoffmann, Linda Norman, Bev Todd, Kim Goforth, Shauna Grover, Jackie Wayman
GUEST:
Approval of Minutes:
Minutes from the June meeting were reviewed and a correction to amount of units accrued from 30 units to 3 units for professional growth was noted. Elaine Hoffman moved to accept the minutes and Kim Goforth seconded followed with attending members’ unanimous approval.
Treasurer’s Report:
⬥Shauna Grover submitted treasurer’s report for June, July and the current month of September. The September 10th report stated that the beginning balance was $7,249.41 with additional receipts of $32.52 (refund check for Mary Lash + bank statement) and disbursements totaling $132.00 (Area Assessment fees and raffle registration fee) bringing the balance on hand to $7,149.93. An explanation was provided to members regarding the refund for Mary Lash from DKG International which was a result of Ms. Lash needing to be classified as a reserve not honorary member in accordance with International bylaws. The chapter will now recognize her as a reserve member and will pay her yearly dues. A partial refund was thus provided to the chapter to reflect the change. Shauna received a very generous donation from Sumie Imada of $1,000 for our Grant in Aid Scholarship. Gamma Zeta chapter currently has 28 active members, 3 reserve members (Dottie Poole, Mary Lash, & Linda Johnson), and 1 honorary member = 32.
Committee Reports:
Suzanne and members reviewed the 7 purposes of the DKG society handout with designated members taking turns reading 1 purpose orally. Members were instructed to utilize meeting time to review their committee’s responsibilities and collaborate and design programs that link to one of the 7 purposes. Members then shared out their plans.
