Call to Order
Meeting was called to order at 5:47 P by Suzanne Fraser ar The Clearwater Building in Paramount
Members in Attendance: (18) Karen Bowen, Irene Lonergan, Juanita Rivas, Lisa Wood, Claudette Bowie, Maria Lopez, Kathleen Shivers, Heather Van Eede, Susan Lance, Angela Loya, Suzanne Fraser, Elaine Hoffmann, Linda Norman, Bev Todd, Kim Goforth, Sumie Imada, Shauna Grover, Jackie Wayman

GUESTS: Kimberly Petersen , member Susan Lance’s daughter. Vanessa Sedano (Housing Program Director) and Alejandro Gonzalez from The Whole Child organization.
Approval of Minutes:
Minutes from the November meeting were reviewed. Kimberly Goforth moved to accept the minutes and Linda Norman seconded followed with attending members’ unanimous approval.
Treasurer’s Report:
⬥Shauna Grover submitted treasurer’s report for December. The December 3rd report stated that the beginning balance was $8,317.41 with additional receipts of $45.00 (Schools for Africa donation) and no disbursements bringing the balance on hand to $8,362.41. The report will be filed for audit. Gamma Zeta chapter currently has 28 active members, 3 reserve members (Dottie Poole, Mary Lash, & Linda Johnson), and 1 honorary member = 32.
Committee Reports:
⬥Program- The Whole Child presentation by employees, Vanessa and Alejandro. Vanessa shared how The Whole Child organization had been one of three California agencies selected to receive a $5 million dollar Bezo grant. The organization will now be venturing into development with the construction of a 25 unit shelter that will house 60 families. The Whole Child will also be partnering with Habitat for Humanity in order to fulfill a needed gap taking families from homelessness to homeowners. Vanessa also shared that in addition to housing support, The Whole Child organizations provides mental health and nutrition counseling for families. Members watched a short video, which highlighted The Whole Child’s evolution over the past 60 years. Members were then given direction on the wrapping of gifts and gift cards, which were purchased by Gamma Zeta Chapter and will be presented by Vanessa and Alejandro to 20 selected families currently being served by The Whole Child organization.
⬥Finance-members reviewed and voted on proposed budget for 2019-2020
⬥Membership-no new items to report at this time
⬥Communications-no new items to report at this time
⬥Legislative-no new items to report at this time
⬥Scholarship- Members were provided with two handouts detailing how to obtain/apply for DKG California scholarships as well as workshop, conference and seminar opportunities in 2020.
⬥Nominations- reminder that committee members Angela Loya, Irene Lonergan, Suzanne Fraser, and Karen Bowen will be contacting members to determine interests in volunteering for executive board positions.
Old Business:
⬥Gamma Zeta members reviewed the proposed 19-20 Budget, which was provided by the Finance committee. Angela Loya moved to accept the proposed budget and Sumie Imada seconded followed with attending members’ unanimous approval.
New Business:
⬥Suzanne shared that our first meeting of 2020 will be a Saturday joint meeting with the Kappa Gamma chapter from Area XI . The meeting program will focus on women’s health and healing. Members were encouraged to consider carpooling if possible.
Adjournment:
⬥Meeting adjourned at 6:54 p.m. Next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 11th at 1:00 p.m. at the Scholar Warrior Community Center (2140 W. Artesia Blvd., Unit A) in Torrance.
