(4)Apply before 12/31/19 for a scholarship for an advanced degree or credential. You will need three letters of reference. Scholarship Application Form and Scholarship Reference Form are found at DKG California web page: DKG CA Scholarships.
Communications: Members signed six holiday cards for members that we have missed. We received a thank you note from Su Casa for the book donations for Su Casa families that have suffered from domestic abuse and violence. The May meeting would be a good meeting to bring gently used or new children’s books and we will choose another place to donate them. LIFE Grants are available. The form is online and a Grant can be written for books as we’ve done in the past.
Legislation: President Suzanne handed out a legislative report from Felice Strauss, Area XII Legislative Chair, for members to read. Kim Goforth spoke about a petition sponsored by CTA that will be in the community soon for signatures to qualify for the 2020 ballot. It is titled Schools and Communities First. It wants to change business properties’ tax status if they are under the 1979 Prop 13. It will not effect home properties. The hope is to capture money for preschool education.
Membership: Jackie Wayman updated and printed our DKG/Gamma Zeta information brochure. Each member got one to give to a prospective member. The extras were given to the Membership Committee.
Nominations: The results of the October Gamma Zeta Officer Survey showed that we have some wonderful ladies that have volunteered for 2020-2022 offices, but we still need a President or Co-Presidents and a Treasurer. Some are thinking about these offices and we appreciate that.
Old Business: Finance Chairman, Sue Lance, presented and discussed the 2018-19 Actual Budget and the Proposed 2019/20 Budget with revenues and expenses. Our actual expenses 2018-2019 were $7,138.43. The proposed expenses for 2019/2020 are $7,581.00. We will approve the Budget at the December meeting.
New Business: (1). Our December program will be putting the Whole Child families’ gifts together. Sue Lance reported that this holiday season we will need movie tickets and dinner gift cards for 73 adults and children in the Whole Child program. Children under five will not receive a movie ticket or dinner gift card. Instead, five members volunteered to purchase a gift for their selected child not to exceed $10. Those members are: Sumie, Angela, Shirley, Beverly, and Linda Norman. These five gifts will be wrapped and brought to our December meeting.
Karen Bowen will bring ribbon and Beverly Todd will bring candy canes. Sue Lance will bring small bags and tissue paper for the gift cards and movie tickets. All members can bring holiday stickers to decorate the bags, scissors, and tape. This meeting will be a Pot Luck dinner. Bring something that you like. No one is assigned anything. Drinks, plates and napkins are provided. Angela Loya, Membership Chairman, reminded everyone to bring a prospective member to this fun holiday meeting.
Think about nominating someone for Outstanding Student Teacher Award. Go online to get the forms.
President Suzanne received a variety of DKG pins. Some members won a pin in the raffle today, and the rest were available to be purchased by donation to Schools For Africa.
The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m. A group picture was taken by Kathleen Shivers after we sang the Delta Kappa Gamma Song.
Next meeting: Tuesday, December 3, 2019, Clearwater Building, Paramount at 5 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Irene Lonergan
