February 10, 2021 Meeting Minutes
Call to Order
5:00 p.m. by Kim Goforth and Shirley Lamphear on the platform Zoom.
Inspirational- Members shared examples of how they have either been a friend to someone and/or had someone demonstrate friendship in turn. Linda Norman shared the 7 Rules of Life and Before You Think (acronym for Is it truthful, helpful, inspiring , necessary, kind?).

GUEST: Andrea Oblea, CSULB teaching scholarship recipient for 2021-22.
Approval of Minutes:
Minutes from the January meeting were reviewed and approved as read. Susan Lance moved to accept the minutes and Carey Von Gremp seconded followed with attending members’ unanimous approval.
Treasurer’s Report:
Kim Goforth (on behalf of Suzanne Fraser) shared the starting balance on hand of $4,651.37 with January receipts of $200 (Grant in Aid donation by Janet Luya) and disbursements of $28.00 ($24-CA dues (reinstatement and Area XIII Assessment fee) leaving the current balance on hand to $4,823.37. The report was approved to be filed by members.
Program:
⬥Andrea Oblea, scholarship recipient, graciously thanked members for her scholarship and shared how it made a tremendous difference in paying for schooling. She then provided a very thorough google slide presentation on the elements of being a student teacher. The presentation entitled, Innovations in Teaching, touched upon the importance of student engagement and accountability during virtual teaching. Ms. Oblea shared various platforms she utilizes during instruction such as NearPod and Zoom as well as instructional tools such as interactive templates, a document camera, and whiteboards. Members commented on how impactful, progressive and thoughtful her practices were and wished her well in her search for a permanent position in the upcoming year.
Committee Reports:
⬥Program- no new items to report at this time
⬥Finance-Suzanne Fraser shared that after receiving Life Foundation monies, Suzanne completed, sent out, and filed a reporting on how funds were spent with the State Life Foundation.
⬥Membership-no new items to report at this time
⬥Communications-Members were provided an update on Mary Lash who is at doing well at home as well as notified that 2021 is chapter member Joy Olson’s 50th anniversary.
⬥Legislative-no new items to report at this time
⬥Awards/Scholarship- *Scholarship recipient presentation
⬥Nominations- no new items to report at this time
Old Business:
⬥Scholarship Fundraising-Bunco- Carey Von Gremp shared a draft copy of the chapter’s “no event” Bunco fundraiser flyer and members provided input and minor revisions. Members were encouraged to print out or email a minimum of 5 final copies of the flyer in order to obtain donations from family, friends, and/or colleagues.
New Business:
⬥Area XII Conference-Shirley shared the conference will be attended virtually on April 17th and members could sign up using google form which was in Area XII newsletter. Shirley forwarded the newsletter to all members to expedite enrollment.
⬥Grant in Aid awards- Shirley shared that members Kim Goforth and Shauna Grover applied for grant awards and that there are still opportunities for members to apply and receive funds. Applications are online and can be accessed on the DKG website.
