October 6, 2015 Meeting Minutes
A lovely salad bar was provided by Angela Loya at her home. At 6:00 p.m. the meeting was called to order by President Karen Bowen. She thanked Angela for our dinner tonight and then she asked her to introduce her guest, Jessica Aragon, who we supported last year as a new teacher. Next, Kim Goforth introduced her guests, April O’Conner, and Juliana Figueiredo, our program speaker.
President Karen Bowen gave the inspiration titled “Sharing”.
Our Program Part 1 tonight gave us an insight into Juliana Figueiredo’s journey after learning that she has 3rd stage breast cancer. She has been the Director of Health and Fitness at the YMCA and certainly was shocked by her diagnosis. She wanted friends and relatives to smile at her and she wanted to look in the mirror and smile at herself so she began #Pink Nose Way and Pink Nose Way on Facebook. She started wearing a pink clown nose and giving out pink clown noses. She also made up gift bags with a head scarf and pink nose for those she met that were on her same journey. She has distributed 100 bags and 450 noses all with her own money. Her purpose is to share hope and awareness and that somebody cares about her when she sees the nose. She was interviewed by CBS TV after a breast cancer walk with her friends where they all wore the pink clown noses and gave noses away to other participants. She noted that her joyful movement seems to be worldwide now. All our members put on the pink noses, and will keep them to think of her and to pass on her story to others.

Suzanne Fraser talked about the Budget with members tonight and Dr. Sumie Imada suggested a copy be sent to members to be reviewed and approved at the November meeting.
The Auditor’s Report of Gamma Zeta’s financial information was completed and submitted by Dr. Sumie Imada to President Karen Bowen. Based on the Guide for Chapter Financial Review (Audit) Committee check list, missing in each monthly packet were monthly Minutes of each meeting to document all expenditures that may occur beyond our regular budgeted items, such as expenditure for June 2015 scholarship drawing and frame. But the Auditor’s Report noted that everything was well organized, detailed, and easy to follow. Treasurer Suzanne Fraser is doing an outstanding job. All records are certified as accurate and complete.
