March 4, 2015 Meeting Minutes
After a lovely dinner prepared by Angela Loya, members sang “Happy Birthday” and ate cake to recognize Gamma Zeta Chapter’s birthday and Delta Kappa Gamma’s birthday. At 6 p.m., Program Chairperson, Kim Goforth, with the help of Shirley Lamphear, and Jill Gutierrez, presented a skit giving members an historical look back at how Delta Kappa Gamma grew over the decades starting with our founding in 1924. The skit showed how Delta Kappa Gamma persevered through the world events of the different decades.
As an Inspiration, Kim Goforth showed a video of Rita Pierson—a teacher and wonderful motivational speaker.
Acting President, Angela Loya introduced guest, Maria Lopez. She thanked everyone for bringing their donations for the Italian Dinner basket to be used for the Area XII Spring Conference fundraiser.
There were no corrections or additions to the February 5, 2015 Minutes so they were approved as sent out.
Treasurer Suzanne Fraser gave the Treasurer’s Report as follows:

Suzanne reminded everyone that the Area XII Spring Conference registration form with your breakfast choice and a $26 check (made payable to DKG/Area XII) was amended to read (made payable to Gamma Zeta)needs to be mailed to her before the end of March or register on-line. If you do not have the form, send Suzanne your check and breakfast choice on a piece of paper. Breakfast choices are: Plate A- Scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, fruit or Plate B- Vegetable Quiche, fruit.
Suzanne will compile Gamma Zeta’s total breakfast choices and money and will send that to the Area XII Treasurer by April 3, 2015.
Two books of Scholarship Tickets ($50 each for a total of $100) were dispersed to each member. Members not attending tonight will receive their two books by mail or will be given out at the brunch.
Committee Reports
Awards/Scholarships- Dr. Sumie Imada shared that she requested information about the fee waiver from CSULB, but received only a thank you for the $1,000 scholarship. By the end of March or April, Dr. Sumie Imada will receive applications for next year’s scholarship recipient and will be sharing that information with the membership. The 2014-2015 recipient will be invited to our end of the year breakfast.
Membership-Angela Loya asked Maria Lopez to submit her paperwork if she is interested in becoming a member this year. Angela is pursuing Jessica Arragon (the new teacher we supported last year) for membership.
Old Business
1. Standing Rules- Acting President Angela Loya and Suzanne Fraser asked for clarification and vote on changes to the Standing Rules. It was moved, seconded and passed to combine and rename Gifts for Retirees and Courtesy to: Member Recognition (Examples such as: gift for retirees in the year of retirement, appropriate card or plant sent by corresponding secretary for illness, death of relative, birth, special achievements, i.e. educational degrees, community recognition, etc., longevity pins, and President’s pin) And it was moved, seconded, and passed to change Memorials to: In Memoriam.
2. A reminder was given to submit THAT hours on-line.
New Business
It was noted that organizational dues are tax deductible up to $250.
Angela Loya thanked Kim Goforth for the invitation that she made and sent out to members and reminded her to turn in her receipt for postage reimbursement.
Chi State Convention- Angela, Linda Norman, and Karen will be attending. The $20 received from Chi State will be given to President Karen Bowen to apply to her registration.
Chi State Convention Program Ad- Angela led a discussion about celebrating Mary Lash’s 50 year membership in Delta Kappa Gamma by placing a ½ page ad in the Convention Program. Dottie Poole moved, it was seconded by Dr. Sumie Imada, and carried. Suzanne Fraser will write the $50 check and contact President Karen Bowen to find out to whom it will be mailed.
The meeting was adjourned at 7 p.m. by singing the Delta Kappa Gamma Song.
