March 6, 2014 Meeting Minutes
The meeting was Called To Order at 6 p.m. by Co-President Jackie Wayman. She thanked Kim Goforth for ordering and delivering our delicious dinner tonight and thanked Marsha Gastelum for ordering and bringing our special Gamma Zeta cake, and gave a thank you to Sue Lance for providing the drinks. Jackie also welcomed back guests Jill Gutierrez and Dora Jacildo.
The Inspirational was presented by Jackie Wayman.
The members were thanked for bringing books tonight for Paramount Library, and Angela Loya was thanked for organizing this. Angela reported that we probably gave over 300 books.
February Minutes were approved as sent out. In the January 14, 2014 Minutes, it was mentioned that 300 tickets would be available to sell this year for our Scholarship fund, however, Jackie Wayman noted tonight that we will continue with the usual 250 tickets available to sell.
Karen Bowen presented the Treasurer’s Report as follows:

Savings Account 2,191.11
Total $3,461.73
Our members have donated $50.79 for Jessica Arragon (new teacher support fund).
Invitations to the Chi State Area XII Spring Conference were distributed. Karen Bowen collected money for that and will be collecting until Friday, March 21. Please send your breakfast request: Either Breakfast A- All American Breakfast or Breakfast B- Vegetarian Quiche and Fruit Cup with a $26 check to:

Old Business
Money was collected for our new teacher support fund and Karen Bowen is taking charge of that money at each meeting.
Our Gamma Zeta Website is certified. Our Newsletter and Minutes will be posted. Thank you, Jackie Wayman for that.
Jackie Wayman wrote a Life Foundation Grant for $300 to help with materials for our Little Free Library. She registered us with the national Little Free Library and received a number( every Little Library has its own number) and plaque for our Library. The one time fee was $35. Little Free Library posts where the Little Free Libraries are around the country. Members are discussing among themselves where a good location would be for our Little Library. Angela Loya believes the Boy Scouts at her church will help us build it.
Chi State Convention will be May 2-4 at the Hyatt Regency Santa Clara. Linda Norman will be driving and Karen Bowen may be flying.
Area XII Spring Conference- Kim Goforth and Shirley Lamphear will include a card that will delineate what is in our Silent Auction Basket. At the monthly Presidents’ meeting, Jackie Wayman and Sue Lance will collect all Area XII Chapters’ gift cards for the Breakfast. That will be our only Area XII Spring Conference responsibility.
Because we have budgeted funds for Life Foundation and Chi State International Fund, Karen Bowen suggested we send them money. It was moved, seconded, and passed to send $10 to Chi State Life Foundation and $25 to Chi State International Fund.
New Business
The Slate of New Officers was presented by Nominating Committee Chair, Linda Norman as follows: Karen Bowen, President; Kim Goforth, 1st Vice President; Angela Loya, 2nd Vice President; Suzanne Fraser, Treasurer; Irene Lonergan, Recording Secretary; Shirley Lamphear, Corresponding Secretary. It was moved, seconded, and passed to accept this Slate of Officers.
Our Co-Presidents and Nominating Committee thanked members that accepted Offices.
Installation will be Saturday, April 12, 2014 at The Area XII Spring Conference at The Grand.
Jackie Wayman presented special pins and certificates to honor Delta Kappa Gamma membership years to: Dr. Sumie Imada- 40 years; Suzanne Fraser and Irene Lonergan- 30 years; and Jackie Wayman- 25 years.
Correspondence
The staff of Millers’ Children’s Hospital sent a thank you note for the Jared Boxes for their patients. Jackie Wayman thanked Angela Loya for delivering the boxes.
Committees
Awards/Scholarships- Dr. Sumie Imada received a thank you note from Cal State Long Beach for the $1,000 check for the Fall/Spring semesters 2014-2015 scholarship. There will be 5 applicants to be previewed and we should have a consensus on who we will choose to be our next scholarship recipient by the breakfast. Dr. Sumie Imada will invite our current recipient, Raeann Marti, to another meeting so we can hear about her future plans.
Program- Women’s History First, members celebrated the 11 founding ladies of Delta Kappa Gamma by “standing for them” and reading about each one, and each member wore a name tag for one of those ladies.
Membership- Members participated in and celebrated the Initiation of Dora Jacildo and
Jill Zuidervaart Gutierrez. Jackie Wayman thanked Angela Loya, Membership Chair, for planning the Initiation, and then she read the names of the 24 original members of Gamma Zeta Chapter and noted that our new members signed the same book that the original members signed.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. with the singing of the Delta Kappa Gamma Song.
We missed these Gamma Zeta Sisters tonight: Linda Johnson, Diana Kelly-Hernandez, and Juanita Rivas.
