February 5, 2015 Meeting Minutes
The meeting was called to order by President Karen Bowen at 5:50 p.m. after a lovely Italian meal prepared by Kim Goforth and Karen Bowen. Kim Goforth introduced her guest, Maria Lopez, a 1st/2nd Combo Hollydale teacher. Three times she has visited our meetings so Angela Loya, Membership Chairperson will send her an invitation for membership.
President Karen Bowen thanked Kim Goforth for the dinner and also thanked the members for bringing Jared Box items tonight.
The Inspiration was read by Irene Lonergan, SHE is a teacher!
The January 7, 2015 Minutes were approved as sent out.
Treasurer Suzanne Fraser gave the Treasurer’s Report as follows:
No receipts and no disbursements so Balance on Hand as of January 31, 2015:
B of A Checking Account $3,729.75
B of A Savings Account 131.23
F & M Bank Account 12.21
Total $3,873.19
For those wishing to purchase any Delta Kappa Gamma supplies, Treasurer Suzanne Fraser passed out the Delta Kappa Gamma Supply List from Awards Concepts Inc. or you may order on-line at www.awardconcepts.net/greek/deltakappagamma.
Committee Reports
Linda Norman spoke about Chi State’s legislative person, Martha Zargoza, who reported that Governor Brown has proposed more money for the implementation of Common Core and teacher training.
Old Business
Treasurer Suzanne Fraser proposed changes to our Standing Rules to align with the budget categories as follows: Combine and rename ‘Gifts for Retirees and Courtesy’ to: Member Recognition- Gift for retirees in the year of retirement, appropriate card or plant sent by the corresponding secretary for illness, death of relative, births, special achievements (educational degrees, community recognition, etc.), longevity pins and President’s pin.
Change of name from ‘Memorials’ to: In Memoriam
An increase in dues for 2015-2016 will be discussed at a later meeting.
Keep collecting THAT (Teacher Helping Another Teacher) hours and submit on-line.
President Karen Bowen would like to restart collecting change or donations for Delta Kappa Gamma’s program called Schools for Africa.
New Business
Golden Rose Recipient- President Karen Bowen announced two nominated candidates: Kim Goforth and Linda Norman and would like all members to e-mail her ([email protected]) or phone her (562-920-5857) by Friday, February 13th to vote for your choice. Our Golden Rose Recipient will be announced at the Spring Conference.
Spring Conference- The breakfast will cost the same as last year, $26.00.
a. Members will bring items for our Italian Dinner themed basket (worth at least $50) as follows:
Irene- 1 box angel hair pasta/ 2 wine glasses
Maria Lopez- boxed cookies
Angela- sauce (2)
Shirley- colander
Kim- bottle of wine
Linda Norman- utensils
Suzanne- olives
Sue- olive oil
Karen- mitts/apron
Bev-parmesan cheese
Suggestions for members not present: placemats, bread sticks, dried salami, sundried tomatoes, peppers, a different type of pasta, etc.
President Karen Bowen needs these items by our next meeting at Angela’s home, March 4th so she can take them to the President’s meeting. Area XII will assemble the baskets.
Included will be a $25 gift card (in an envelope with our Chapter name and basket theme) paid from our Budget.
Members may donate items for the Silent Auction. Give them to President Karen Bowen at the next meeting so that she can take them to the President’s meeting. Gamma Zeta’s responsibility at the Conference will be to pass out baskets to the winners and collect the money due.
Area XII would like to do a live auction. Does anyone have something great for this? Karen has a flyer about it.
Gamma Zeta Fundraising- Treasurer Suzanne Fraser and President Karen Bowen led a discussion about selling tickets to raise funds for our scholarship recipient. It was moved, seconded, voted, and passed to require all members to sell two books of tickets this Spring ($5 a ticket x 10 tickets in a book totals $50 for one book and two books would equal $100). Suzanne reminded everyone that the scholarship recipient receives $1,000 for two semesters. There will be two $50 ticket winners this year. Maria Lopez and Sue Lance worked on the wording for the tickets that will be sold.
Franchise Tax Board- Chi State is registering for us, but we need to provide gross income for the last 5 years. 199N: Once we receive the okay to do raffles, the treasurer will need to complete a report of gross income along with the 990.
Area XII Newsletter editors received the Newsletter award from Chi State.
Area XII website is areaXIIchistateca.com (all lowercase and one word). Pat Tonelli is the webmaster.
Corresponding Secretary, Shirley Lamphear read a thank you note from Whole Child. They said we helped them keep their 57 year commitment to the families that seek their services.
The meeting adjourned at 7:10 to fill Jared Boxes prepared as an assembly line by Angela Loya’s organization and members’ contributions.
