Meeting Minutes
February 2013
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
Chi State: Area XII: Gamma Zeta Chapter
February 13, 2013
Co-President Sue Lance called the meeting to order at 5:45 p.m. after a wonderful baked potato buffet prepared by Angela Loya at her home. Everyone welcomed our guest, Shirley Lamphear.
The Inspiration from the book, Best Friends Last a Lifetime, was presented by Angela Loya.
Program: The Jared Box Project- Angela explained that a 5 year old boy named Jared began the idea for activity boxes for children hospitalized with chronic illnesses. Jared was chronically ill with cancer, carried a backpack full of toys and games to all his appointments, and questioned why other children didn’t bring toys. His battle ended in 2000, but his memory lives on through Jared Boxes. Delta Kappa Gamma started supporting Jared Boxes in 2001, and its’ goal last year was 2,000 boxes. Our Chapter will fill boxes tonight and again give our Jared Boxes to Miller’s Children’s Hospital which is part of Long Beach Memorial Hospital.
The January 9, 2013 Meeting Minutes were approved as sent out.
