September 1, 2015 Meeting Minutes
We began our lovely evening around Suzanne Fraser’s club pool with tables with all the fixings to make sandwich plates provided by Suzanne.
At 6 p.m. members participated in the Initiation of Maria Lopez organized by Second Vice President and Membership Chairperson, Angela Loya. The Seven Purposes of Delta Kappa Gamma were read by members. After the ceremony, President Karen Bowen welcomed Maria into our Society and all members individually welcomed her as well. A few weeks before, Angela Loya had provided Orientation at her home with the assistance of Dr. Sumie Imada and Irene Lonergan.
President Karen Bowen called the monthly meeting to order at 6:15 p.m. The June 6, 2015 Meeting Minutes were approved as sent out. President Karen announced that the name Chi State has been changed to California State.
Treasurer Suzanne Fraser presented her financial report as follows:

Treasurer Suzanne Fraser collected $120 from each member tonight for yearly dues. The proposed budget will be coming.
Program
Business Meeting:
*President Karen Bowen presented the Gamma Zeta Calendar for 2015-2016 with discussion, and approval. Some places and speakers are pending.
*Delta Kappa Gamma has published an informative newsletter about tips and techniques for creating a website and keeping it legal. Also, Delta Kappa Gamma is adding a new publication titled Collegial Exchange coming in the Fall. Anyone may submit articles. The on-line Delta Kappa Gamma store suggests planning ahead for necessary supplies so that you save shipping costs by bundling items.
*Members verified their personal information with the Area XII Directory and made changes if needed. The California Connection newsletter will no longer be mailed so if you don’t have an e-mail address, you will have to get a copy from someone. For those not attending tonight, please send new information to Karen Bowen, Angela Loya, Kim Goforth, and Irene Lonergan .
*The Nominations Committee needs to start thinking about new officer recruitment for 2016-2018.
*Gamma Zeta will be submitting an article for the Area XII Winter Newsletter due Jan. 17th. Irene Lonergan volunteered to write it. If you have ideas about our Chapter, please give them to Irene.
*All Chapters and Areas are registered with the State Franchise Tax Board and are in the process of being registered with the Attorney General. Once finalized, we may sell raffle tickets again.
*Gamma Zeta members are invited to attend Beta Iota Chapter’s Bunco Night on Wed., Oct. 14th. They will show us how to run Bunco Night and it will cost $20 to participate. Karen will send us the where and time for that event. Our Bunco Night will be in March.
*Hands Across the Border is an organization that will collect donated school supplies Oct. 17th in San Diego. If interested, ask Karen for details.
*Diana Kelly-Hernandez shared her volunteer activities at the Education Center at 3rd and Atlantic. It was started by Margaret Keefer about 10 years ago and is housed in a church. The program is now called Rising Tide, it has non-profit status, and is sponsored by grants and donations. It provides assistance from babies to college age and gives after school homework help. They are asking for school supplies and/or $45 to purchase a new backpack for a student. If you can help or donate, call Diana Kelly-Hernandez (562)244-9441.
Committee Reports
Scholarships- Dr. Sumie Imada shared photos from last year’s CSULB scholarship reception. This year it will be Friday, Sept. 25th from 4-6 p.m. and Sumie will RSVP by Sept. 18th. Irene Lonergan will attend with Sumie.
Membership- Angela Loya shared that the International President, Lynn Schmidt spoke about recruiting and retaining members. Prospective members want to know what is in it for them? So be sure and talk about scholarships, travel/educational opportunities, and charitable work.
Old Business
*Submit THAT(Teacher Helping Another Teacher)hours on-line. Volunteer hours only.
*Schools For Africa- A jar will be passed at each meeting to donate loose change.
*Angela Loya spoke about having a few members meet with the Girl Scout Troop and their leader that have started a neighborhood “Little Library”. Linda Norman will make Delta Kappa Gamma Society Gamma Zeta Chapter book plates for the books that we will be donating to their library.

Nomination paperwork needs to be in by Dec. 1, 2015 for these awards:
*Distinguished Service to California State Award
*Distinguished Career/Professional Service Award
*Distinguished Public Service Award
*California State Hostelship Application
The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. with the singing of The Delta Kappa Gamma Song.

What: Kim Goforth will introduce her friend, Juliana who will be speaking about breast cancer awareness. Also, bring $3 to learn to play Left, Right, Center and a prize will be given to the winner. Bring $6 for dinner, please.
