President Karen Bowen called the meeting to order at 5:50 p.m. after the members enjoyed Chinese chicken salad, grapes, and cookies prepared by Karen Bowen and fruit salad prepared by Mary Lash.
For inspiration, President Karen Bowen showed the Chi State DVD about the history of Delta Kappa Gamma and what it means to be a member.
The June 14, 2014 Meeting Minutes and the July 15, 2014 Board Meeting Minutes were approved as sent out.
The Treasurer’s Report was given by Treasurer Suzanne Fraser as follows:
1. Dr. Sumie Imada audited Gamma Zeta’s financial books for 2013-2014 and found previous Treasurer, Karen Bowen’s work all in order.
2. Dues were collected for 2014-2015. Dues are $90. If you have not paid yet, please send your check to Suzanne Fraser at 16438 Harbour Lane, Huntington Beach, CA 92649.
3. Bank of America is our new bank. $12.21 was left in our Farmers & Merchants checking account for any closing costs. A cashier’s check was issued by Farmers & Merchants Bank for $4,131.23 with $4,000 deposited into Gamma Zeta’s new Bank of America checking account and $131.23 deposited into Gamma Zeta’s new Bank of America savings account. $100 needed to be deposited to open a new account so Suzanne Fraser deposited her $90 dues plus a $10 donation.
(4). The Finance Committee will meet and work on a proposed Budget and Jackie Wayman will put it on our Website.

President Karen Bowen asked members to correct, add, or delete any information to the Gamma Zeta membership roster.
Corresponding Secretary, Shirley Lamphear, read a thank you card from Jessica Aragon for the new teacher donation that we gave her. She has a signed contract for 5th grade at Jefferson Elementary, Paramount.
Jackie Wayman read Marsha Gastelum’s resignation letter. Then Jackie read her own reply to accept Marsha’s resignation. Irene Lonergan will contact Marsha about collecting Gamma Zeta’s scrapbooks.

Scholarships/Awards- Dr. Sumie Imada announced that Yolanda Gonzales will be our Scholarship Recipient and will receive $1,000 for 2 semesters. On Friday, September 26th there will be a Scholarship Recipient Reception at 4 p.m. at CSULB. Linda Norman and Kim Goforth will represent our Chapter.
Program- Kim Goforth told about the fun Bunco night planned for our October 2nd meeting at Angela Loya’s home. Irene Lonergan and Linda Norman will bring card tables and chairs. Kim will bring prizes for the highest and lowest scores.
Communications- Webmaster Jackie Wayman said that the Yearbook will be on our http://gammazetachistate.weebly.com site. President Karen Bowen will send everyone the Meeting Dates, Places, and Programs as an attachment to an e-mail. December 1st is the next deadline for an article to go into the Chi State News and will be sent to Bette Caldwell. Irene Lonergan will meet with the Communications Committee at the October meeting to discuss this further.
Unfinished Business
Dr. Sumie Imada, Jackie Wayman, and Karen Bowen led a discussion about an e-mail sent to Scholarship Chair, Dr. Sumie Imada from the School of Education at CSULB about a 6% fee that would be subtracted from a scholarship donation. Because we want our scholarship recipient to receive the full amount, President Karen Bowen wrote a letter to request a fee waiver, officers signed it, and Karen mailed it.
New Business
The meeting was adjourned with the singing of the Delta Kappa Gamma Song with pictures.

New Business
- Angela Loya interviewed new members, Kim Goforth and Shirley Lamphear. Members will be interviewed throughout the year by Membership Chair, Angela Loya so that we can learn more about our members.
- There will be a one day Delta Kappa Gamma workshop titled Taming Technology on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 8:15 am through 3:45 pm at National University, Costa Mesa. If you are interested please send a check for $80 and the application form to Bette Caldwell, 6527 West 84th St., Los Angeles, CA 90045-2852. Lunch and snacks are included, and you must register by October 10th. You will learn how to create and work on a website, create a Chapter newsletter, learn Microsoft Word Basics to Intermediate, learn Google Docs, and learn Excel Spreadsheet: Basics & Financial Use. Contact Irene Lonergan for the application form.
- At the end of the 2014-2015 year, Jackie Wayman will try Shutterfly to put Gamma Zeta’s 2014-2015 year in pictures.
- Shirley Lamphear shared her idea for a possible Little Library in her neighborhood which will be reviewed at the November meeting at her house.
- President Karen Bowen passed out Gamma Zeta’s Standing Rules and Chapter Rules to be reviewed by members for changes or additions to be discussed at a future meeting.
- Charity for Delta Kappa Gamma- Go to dkg.org and click on amazonsmile “Get Started” button in the Features section. When you shop on amazonsmile(smile.amazon.com), 0.5% of your purchase price will be donated to the DKG Supporting Corporation. Irene Lonergan has the flyer for this if you need more information.
