Committee Reports
- Awards/Scholarships- Linda Norman and Kim Goforth attended the Scholarship Reception at CSULB. Our recipient, Yolanda Gonzalez, received our $1,000 for two semesters, and $10,000 from School’s First for tuition and living expenses. Kim and Linda were inspired by the CSULB students.
- Communications- President Karen Bowen was asked to submit an article for the Area XII Winter Newsletter. Irene Lonergan will e-mail members of the Communication Committee for a consensus for the topic. If it will be about Yolanda Gonzalez and the Scholarship Reception, Irene, will e-mail Dr. Sumie Imada, Linda Norman, and Kim Goforth to contribute.
- Webmaster- Jackie Wayman reminded members that our Yearbook is on the Gamma Zeta website. Don’t forget to capitalize the W in Women which is part of the password. You will find the Meeting Dates and Directions, Member’s information, etc. and all the information will be easily updated in the future.
- Membership- Angela Loya spoke about her original idea that she presented to us at the September meeting and recently to Area XII. She wants us to think THRAN when thinking about types of members or potential members: T-Transfers; H-Honorary; R- Reinstated; A- Active; N-New Members. Chi State’s 1st Vice President attended the Area XII meeting and asked to take the idea back to the Chi State President and the Chi State Membership Committee.
Old Business
There was a discussion of changing Chapter Standing Rules and Chapter By Laws, i.e. Gifts for Retirees, Memorials, and Recognitions, and decisions will be tabled for a future meeting. Jackie Wayman will post on our web site the addition to our By Laws that no fee will be paid to any institution when giving a scholarship. We will vote on changes at a future meeting.
- Technology Workshop November 1st in Costa Mesa. Paperwork due October 10th.
New Business
- Leadership Development Retreat- Jan. 24-25, 2015, Sacramento. Scholarships available. Register by Dec. 10th. See President Karen Bowen if you are interested.
- Area XII Director, Linda Moore, will summarize the great ideas that came out of the Membership Meeting and will send them to the Chapter Presidents.
- Penne Ferrell Scholarship applications are due Nov. 1st. Money is designated to build a library for a new teacher.
- Two new 4th grade teachers at Lincoln School are looking for help in the classroom. Notify President Karen Bowen if you are interested.
- THAT hours may be filed on-line. (Area XII is second in the state for volunteer hours.)
- We can no longer sell tickets for raffles, opportunities, or anything else where you get a chance to win anything. We will discuss fund raising alternatives in the future, i.e. silent auction, live auction, pay at the door, but no ticket.
The meeting was adjourned for our member mixer, playing Bunco.
Respectfully submitted,
Irene Lonergan, Recording Secretary
