May 6, 2015 Meeting Minutes
President Karen Bowen Called the Meeting to Order at 5:50 p.m. after members shared in the potluck dinner provided by members. Karen introduced, 2nd grade teacher Toni Lopez, a guest tonight from Paramount Unified School District.
The Inspiration, “I Heard a Call”, was read by President Karen Bowen.
The March 4, 2015 Meeting Minutes were approved as sent out.
The Treasurer’s Reports for April and May were presented by Sue Lance as follows:

Sue Lance reminded members that in February we discussed increasing dues for the 2015-2016 school year and asked that we revisit that tonight. A motion was made by Angela Loya that dues be increased to $120 and Dr. Sumie Imada seconded it. After discussion, the motion passed. However, the motion was amended to increase reserve dues to $60. This change in dues will be collected at the September 2015 meeting.
Committee Reports
Scholarships/Awards
Dr. Sumie Imada announced that Amanda Christina Garcia was selected as our Grant-In-Aid recipient for the Fall 2015 school year. A vote was taken at the Area XII breakfast after reviewing applications submitted. A letter will be sent from our Chapter to Amanda. Also, Dr. Imada will be inviting our recipient for 2014-2015, Yolanda Gonzalez, to our June breakfast meeting.
Membership
Angela Loya received a letter from Maria Lopez accepting our invitation for membership and Corresponding Secretary Shirley Lamphear read the letter to our members. Maria Lopez will be initiated at the September 2015 meeting.
Angela reminded members of the many awards Gamma Zeta Chapter has received over the years, i.e. Chi State Chapter performance awards and community service awards and Long Beach City College awards, just to name a few. Members agreed that we can be very proud of our Chapter.
Webmaster
President Karen Bowen announced that Chi State will be giving Jackie Wayman an award for recognition of her work on our wonderful Gamma Zeta website.
Old Business
Our new By-Laws will be sent to Chi State.
Remember to submit THAT hours on-line.
Linda Norman was recognized at the Area XII Spring Conference as Gamma Zeta’s Golden Rose recipient and she was congratulated again at tonight’s meeting. With discussion, a decision was made that the recipient will be notified ahead of time in the future so that they may have the opportunity to invite family and friends.
New Business
Chi State Convention- President Karen Bowen shared a Chi State membership pamphlet titled “New Tools & Strategies for Successful Recruitment… A Journey for Life”. It was decided that Sue Lance will take it to Treasurer Suzanne Fraser so that she may order some for our Chapter.

July 22-25, 2015 Southwest Regional Conference in Wichita, Kansas
Oct. 24, 2015 Chi State Technology Retreat in San Jose
Program
Our Chapter celebrated Mary Lash’s 50 year membership with a 50 year pin presented by President Karen Bowen. Corresponding Secretary Shirley Lamphear read the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Certificate congratulating Mary. Membership Chairman Angela Loya shared all the service that Mary has given to our Chapter, and as she questioned Mary about her teaching experiences. Mary told about beginning in 1950 at Paramount Junior High School and moving into the new Paramount High School in 1953 to teach Home Ec. in the room that she is still in. Mary thanked us for the recognition and President Karen thanked Mary for opening her house for our meeting tonight.
Chi State Convention- Angela Loya shared that 500 women attended Convention and next May it will be in Fresno. President Karen Bowen told about the leadership session and the great collaboration ideas. The new Chi State officers were installed.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m. with the singing of the Delta Kappa Gamma Song.
