Meeting Minutes
June 2014
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
Chi State: Area XII: Gamma Zeta Chapter
June 14, 2014
Co-President Jackie Wayman welcomed everyone to the end of the year breakfast at Mimi’s Café in Long Beach, especially Alpha Chi members and special guests: Raeann Marti, our Spring 2014 scholarship recipient; Alysen Royes, our Fall 2013 scholarship recipient; Jessica Arragon, our new teacher support recipient and her mother Maria Arragon.
Money was collected one more time for our new teacher, Jessica Arragon, and then Angela Loya presented her with $275 and a basket of supplies. She finished her first year and taught 5th grade.
Jill Gutierrez introduced her guest, Shauna Grover, who was Teacher of the Year at Paramount High School.
Jackie Wayman read a note from Marsha Gastelum that she is resigning and we all hope, when she can, she will return. We will miss this hard working member, but we all know she wants to give more time to her granddaughter, so we accepted her resignation with regrets.
Jackie passed out seed packets to everyone as a symbol—while growing our vegetables at home, we also hope to grow our membership. Jackie also gave out candy treats to all out-going Gamma Zeta officers.
All members signed a thank you card for our out-going Area XII Director, Linda Moore. Jackie noted how supportive she has been.
Treasurer’s Report presented by Treasurer Karen Bowen as follows:
Balance on hand as of June 4, 2014
Checking Account $1,847.21
Savings Account 2,191.17
Total $4,038.38
Karen collected money and tickets before the Raffle Drawing, then we all congratulated Angela Loya as the lucky winner of this year’s raffle.
Jackie noted that she will e-mail members about a summer computer class at her house.
Diana Kelly-Hernandez told about a fundraiser for the after school program where she volunteers. The silent auction fundraiser was held on June 22, 2014 at the Covenant Presbyterian Church at 3rd and Atlantic, Long Beach. The fundraiser was to help the 2:30-6:30 after school program for the disadvantaged children in the area which Diana said is very successful. If you would like to find out more about it or would like to donate to it, you may call (562)437-0908 x25 or e-mail at www.Rising[email protected]. It is held at the Marguerite Keifer Ed. Center, Long Beach.
Respectfully submitted,
Irene Lonergan, Recording Secretary
