Committee Reports
Scholarships/Awards- Dr. Sumie Imada noted that a $1,000 check will be needed by March 1st for our scholarship recipient’s upcoming Fall semester.
Finance- Suzanne Fraser reported that the Finance Committee (Jill Gutierrez, Sue Lance, Dr. Sumie Imada, Suzanne Fraser) met and proposed a budget that will be emailed to everyone so that we can discuss and vote at our next meeting for any revisions, i.e. increase amount budgeted for Whole Child. Also, we may need to sell tickets earlier in case our savings account is depleted which would generate a bank service charge. We cannot fall below a certain balance. Suzanne will check into that. Claudette Bowie has information about this.
Membership- Get paperwork to Angela Loya if you have a prospective member. Twenty Jared Boxes will be filled at the February meeting.
Members signed for needed items:
Juanita Rivas and Linda Norman- 15 boxes of colored pencils
Shirley Lamphear-10 pads of paper
Bev Todd- 18 scissors
Mary Lash- 18 matchbox cars
Kim Goforth- 20 coloring books
Dora Jacildo- Stickers to decorate boxes
Suzanne Fraser- 20 Rulers
Jill Gutierrez- Playing cards
Sumie Imada- Cards- Old Maid, Fish, Hearts, War
Irene Lonergan- 20 Sesame Street books
Karen Bowen and anyone that didn’t get a chance to sign up- buy 20 things that aren’t noisy or too small, but fun to do or make, and anyone can bring new books that will fit in the containers.
Communications- Irene Lonergan reported that the Area XII Winter Newsletter article was sent before Christmas to the Editors.
Old Business
Changes to our By Laws and Standing Rules will be discussed at the February meeting.
THAT hours are submitted online.
Fund Raising for Area XII- Linda Moore is collecting ideas. Our members suggested adding $5 to the meal ticket for the Area XII Spring Conference and each member attending would receive a number of tickets with their breakfast for a drawing. For this year only, Chapters cannot purchase tickets directly for a raffle. Previously, Chapters used Chi State’s registration number, but now Area XII must complete the process to register for permission to hold raffles and have their own registration number. Linda Moore reminded members that if the $5 extra on a meal ticket would be a hardship, she could scholarship that person.
Public Releases- Shirley Lamphear sent information to community newspapers. She read the letter that she sent and the letter she received as follow-up, but nothing has been published so far.
We received a Christmas card and picture from Marsha Gastelum and it was shared with the members.
New Business
By the end of the month, Golden Rose nominations need to be e-mailed to President Karen Bowen. These ladies have already been honored: Mary Lash, Dr. Sumie Imada, Irene Lonergan, Angela Loya, Karen Bowen, Jackie Wayman, and Sue Lance.
Submit your creative works in January for the Convention’s Fine Arts Gallery. Visit DKG website for details. They want original designs. No completed kits can be submitted.
Southwest Regional Conference will be in Wichita, Kansas.
Upgraded database- Electronic registration will be required for the regional conference. DKG’s public website will be available without logging in, but member interaction will only be accessible by logging in as a member using your six digit member ID number found on your membership card or get your number from Suzanne Fraser. The default password is dkg2014society which can be used to log in the first time. Then members should change their passwords after the first log in. Members can email [email protected] for additional assistance.
Program: Members picked a wrapped gently used book and a synopsis was given by the one who brought the book. These were some of the titles: Book Thief by Marcus Zusak; The Christmas Hope by Donna VanLiere; Sycamore Hill by John Grisham; Quilter’s Homecoming by Jennifer Chiaverini; and Writing for Wellness by Julie Davey. Members also brought gently used children’s books to donate.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Irene Lonergan, Recording Secretary
