Meeting Minutes
January 2013
Delta Kappa Gamma Society International
Chi State: Area XII: Gamma Zeta Chapter
January 9, 2013
The meeting was called to Order at 5:50 p.m. by Co-President Sue Lance after a delicious soup and sandwich supper prepared by Angela Loya. Sue welcomed our guests: Area XII World Fellowship Chairman, Vicki Stemm; guests Shirley Lamphere and Kim Gilforth, and retired Lincoln Kindergarten teacher Joann Cooley who was visiting Angela and is now living in Missouri, and Alpha Chi members.
Suzanne Fraser gave the Inspiration- “Resolution- A Month After Christmas”.
Our Speaker tonight, Vicki Stemm, spoke about how we can be of service to International. She said members may send an application to International and tell what committee they’d like to be on. Her committee of 5 members, World Fellowship, reads 75-100 applications a year to select 20 scholarship recipients. The recipients want to work on a post graduate degree in the United States or Canada, are all Fulbright Scholars, are not Delta Kappa Gamma members, and live in countries other than the United States or Canada. The scholarship is for $4,000 and the recipient can apply for an extension of $800-$1200. Fulbright places recipients at the University that best suits their needs. When you donate to World Fellowship, not only is it tax deductible, but 100% of the donation goes into that fund. Vicki passed out brochures that explain ways to fundraise and ways to communicate with recipients, i.e. birthday or holiday cards and thinking of you notes. Our Chapter may order more brochures by calling International and just pay for postage or we may copy the one she gave out.
After thanking Vicki for her presentation, Sue continued on with the meeting by approving the December Minutes as sent out.
Angela gave out the information about Mary Hoffmann’s funeral services and Irene Lonergan will send that out to all members. Sue Lance noted that a $50 donation would be made to Chi State in memory of Mary.
The Treasurer’s Report was given by Karen Bowen as follows:
