Committees of Work
Awards/Scholarships- Dr. Sumie Imada said that five applications will be available in March or April to review for our Grant-in-Aid selection for the Fall 2014/Spring 2015 Student Teaching Program. Our present Grant-in-Aid, Raeann Marti will graduate from the CSULB Student Teaching Program in June. Sumie also reported that she completed the Financial and Scholarship Reports on-line for Chi State.
Communications- Marsha Gastelum will send a card to Mary Lash who recently fell and hasn’t been able to put weight on her foot. Unrelated to her fall, she continues to go for weekly wound therapy.
Program- Angela Loya reported that Chi State has given 2,000 Jared Boxes and is hoping for 3,000. We will fill our Jared Boxes in an assembly line fashion tonight and they will be delivered to Millers’ Children’s Hospital, Long Beach Memorial Hospital.
The March 6th meeting at Paramount Library will be Women’s History, Initiation of New Members, Chapter Birthday, recognition of 25, 30, and 40 year members. Kim Goforth will bring chicken, rice, and salad from the Waikiki Grill to the Paramount Library meeting room for our dinner. Sue Lance will bring water and soda and Marsha Gastelum will bring the Initiation/Birthday cake. Please bring money for dinner ($89 to be divided among members attending—probably $6-$7 for each member), and bring gently used children’s books to donate to the library. Sumie and Irene will arrive at Angela’s home at 4 p.m. to help load books and then help Angela set up for Initiation at the Library.
Membership- Angela invited us to vote for Jill Gutierrez for membership. It was unanimous to accept Jill. She will be initiated with Dora Jacildo at the March meeting. Jill works at Buena Vista Continuation School in Lakewood teaching history and relationships the 1st quarter and finances the 2nd quarter. The last semester she teaches literacy enhancement. She has 23 students on average. Be sure to come to the March meeting to welcome our new members.
